Sonja London Receives IPR Person of the Year Recognition

On 27 March 2026, Sonja London, founder of Fearless IP, received the IPR Person of the Year award from the IPR University Center at the Annual Finnish IPR Gala. The recognition honours Sonja’s long-standing contribution to intellectual property strategy, licensing and commercialisation, and reflects a career spanning more than two decades in the international IP field.

A Meaningful Recognition

At Fearless IP, we are proud to see Sonja’s work recognised in this way. The award is a significant acknowledgement of deep expertise, long-term commitment and practical impact across intellectual property, licensing and commercial strategy.

In her own reflections after the event, Sonja describes the recognition as especially meaningful because her career has included several different paths within IP: in corporations, organisations, entrepreneurship and board work. She also emphasises that no career in this field is built alone, and expressed her gratitude to the many colleagues, collaborators and friends who have shaped the journey.

The Grounds for the Award

In announcing the recognition, the IPR University Center highlighted Sonja’s impressive career of more than two decades in intellectual property strategy and commercialisation. It noted that she has not merely followed the development of the field, but has been at the forefront of building it, helping companies around the world turn intellectual property rights into business value.

The IPR University Center also pointed to the breadth of her expertise, from mobile technologies to automotive and IoT, and to her role in demanding international licensing negotiations and the development of major licensing programmes. It described her as someone with a rare combination of strategic vision and practical execution capability.

Beyond business, the award grounds also recognised Sonja as a community builder, connector and industry leader. In particular, the IPR University Center referred to her international role as President of LESI, where she has promoted global cooperation, knowledge-sharing and the visibility of Finnish IPR expertise beyond national borders.

A Career Built Across Business, Leadership and Community

Sonja’s background combines in-house leadership, board work, international industry engagement and specialist advisory work. Before founding Fearless IP, she held senior licensing and IP leadership roles at Nokia and later served as General Counsel and Licensing Executive at TactoTek. Today, through Fearless IP, she advises companies on IP monetisation, licensing strategy, SEP and FRAND matters, and technology commercialization.

Her work has also been recognised internationally through inclusion in IAM Strategy 300, and through leadership positions in the global licensing community.

Congratulations, Sonja

We warmly congratulate Sonja on this well-deserved recognition.
